Bravely Default Walkthrough - Part 1

Good Evening readers, today I'll be starting a weekly Bravely Default play through. To start out though I'll go into the amazing goodies the collector's edition of the game has come with. The game came with a pretty little art book, filled with great colorful illustrations, as well as some AR cards and a beautiful portion of the soundtrack on a CD. The book is a small little thing with pictures of the character concept art, from the main characters to antagonists and supporting cast. Haven't had a chance to try out the AR cards just yet, but the collectors edition came with a set of 36 cards that show little movies when put through the augmented reality viewer in the game. The CD holds 10 tracks of grand musical goodness from the game that are enjoyable to listen to. Enough about the collectors edition, let's get to the game!

So the game starts with an introduction to the main characters of the game, Tiz, Agnes, Edea, and Ringabel, giving a quick little cutscene for each of them, to give a little background on the characters. What do we learn about our characters? Agnes is a priestess or something, Ringabel is on the search for a hot woman friend and has amnesia, Edea is our epic female warrior, and Tiz is our sheep herder. Our first cutscene however ends with Tiz's village Norende being swallowed up along with his family and friends. Poor Tiz, it's quite unfortunate for him, but that's where our adventure begins, with calamity on our main characters hometown!

Soon enough we find Tiz waking up in a bed in an unknown place. After a bit of exploring we find it to be the kingdom of Caldisla. We have Tiz go about talking to the King, and are then sent running off to check on Norende alone. How very irresponsible sending the sole survivor of an event to explore a monster covered hole in the ground. Eitherway on the way, we go about and kill some goblins, zombies, and bats, oh my! Ad mist the killing, it's not long till we arrive at the hole in the ground that used to be Norende. Who do we find to be there? It's no other than Agnes who's saying a prayer or whatever to a magical crystal.

Sky Pirates, don't look very pirate-y.

Norende is gone, and to top things off, soon enough we're attacked by Sky Pirates! Oh no, whatever shall Tiz and Agnes do! These pirates start to bombard the area with explosive cannon fire and send grunts to attack the two. They turn out to be really easy to defeat and in no time the pirates are defeated and sent to leave for restocking their ammunition. The duo leave the chasm and head back to Caldisla to tell the king about what's going on and such. Soon enough Agnes states that she wants to leave for some lake or whatever, Tiz being the honorable lad decides to guide the way, since Agnes apparently can't navigate anywhere. So ends our adventure for today though, Tiz and Agnes are off to see the nearby lake to see where adventure leads them.

A Little Help for Nintendo!

Okay guys, so I was reading one of the sites I follow for my Nintendo news and I came across an article that riled me up, and then I read the comments and that only got my blood boiling. It made me so mad, that for the first time in the past year that I've been reading that blog, I posted a comment! The comment slowly turned into an essay and I really wanted it to be read, so I'm posting it on my blog. Yes I'm still in midterms, yes I'll regret this later as I stay up late studying for it, but it had to be said. I hope to something that Nintendo will read this themselves and stop shooting their own foot, liked I mention in my essay! 

Note: I edited it for the blog. I typed it in a rage, and so some spelling and grammar was off. I fine-tuned it a little more and added a sentence or two.

In Answer to the Article: This is a very bad publicity move. Nintendo shouldn’t have their fans know that they do not care about them! It’s the fans that’s managing to keep their company a float. I hope Reggie is getting in trouble for this, because this is not a good move for any type of company. 

In Answer to all the Comments: Hardware doesn’t sell software. Case point- 3DS vs Vita. Vita is much more powerful, and personally I think its more well-crafted for a real gamer’s needs, but in the end, 3DS is doing better. Both had a rocky start, but 3DS has already recovered, Vita, not yet. Nintendo has one thing right, software sells hardware which was proven by the 3DS. Sales rose with games like Super Mario 3D Land, Fire Emblem Awakening, Luigi’s Mansion, and Animal Crossing: New Leaf. Wii U needs software desperately and Nintendo is trying their best to crank it out. 

What I think Nintendo is doing wrong are a couple of core things.
First their marketing teams sucks. They need to realize that kids have moved on to other devices such as the tablet and mobile gaming. It isn’t because they dislike the consoles, it’s just that the consoles are too expensive. But a tablet or a phone, their parents will already have, and the kids can play off of their parent’s devices. It’s about what’s readily available. I mean Tamagotachi was really popular, but it wasn’t the most cutting edge. It sold cause it was cheap. Consoles aren’t cheap, and so parents won’t buy their kid such an expensive toy. If Nintendo started focusing on games that adults would like, then they would buy the console for the game they want, and get another game (40-50 for a toy compared to 300-350~!) for their child to play. Everybody wins.

Nintendo has poor 3rd party developer. I don’t know how they would get 3rd party developers, since like some of you said, money makes things happen and with a system that has such a low install base, nothing is gonna move cause it isn’t going to make money. Nintendo really has to get their system out of the ditch, and honestly, these games geared to kids won’t do it because of my first reason mentioned above. They need something that’s unique to the Wii U. Of course adults will buy the PS and XBOX version of a popular game like Call of Duty or Assassins Creed, because they already have those consoles. Instead of spending big bucks for a new console and the same game they can just buy the game for a console they already have! Adults work the same way for themselves as for their kids, cheaper and less spending = better. No one has the money to be spending all that cash for a new console when in their eyes it’s the same thing just a different provider!  

I lied, there is a way for Nintendo to get 3rd party dev onto their Wii Wagon, and that's by increasing their install base. How? It'll have to be an ideal situation. Since Wii U came late to the race in HD, they have to make it up by creating a game that’s so spectacular and so specifically made for the Wii U (i,e. using the game pad) that all the people (the adult people mind, who actually make the money) would HAVE to buy it because it’s just that amazing! Honestly, I’m a Nintendo fan, but I don’t have a Wii U. I don’t have a need of one because they aren’t releasing anything someone my age and gamer type would like. There are tons of people out there who are like that. They don’t need 3rd party developers RIGHT NOW. Later, yes, but now? No. They need a game specifically for the Wii U because if it’s a game that comes for cross-platforms, the gamers will get it for their already owned platform. 

Honestly, I hope Monolith’s X is going to be amazing, and Bayonetta 2 has a large enough fan-base, because right now, Mario won’t move the console anymore. It’s not for everyone, and kids are too poor to buy it. If Nintendo won’t listen to fans’ petitioning because that isn’t where the money’s at, then where the hell are they looking? People have been demanding for a game that uses the gamepad and is amazing, but instead we get another Mario game that doesn’t really need the gamepad and a Donkey Kong game that doesn’t use it at all. Mario and Donkey Kong is fun, but its getting stale. People outgrow it. Look a the market, see where the money flows, follow that stream of gold and snatch the sea of wealth it goes too!

Midterm Hiatus

Update: My midterms have been moved and so now has my availability. I won't be posting again till Feburary 14, 2014, on Valentines Day after my final Midterm for the quarter. I'm so sorry guys. I am still playing Animal Crossing everyday to have data, I just don't have the time to write posts. Please forgive my unpreparedness and I will try my best to avoid this in the future.

Mom!

Today was an extremely big day!
For starters, Tom Nook was on time and upgraded my mailbox and door. It doesn't look too different but I like it a lot. It's starting to feel like home. I am out of room to actually place things in though, so I might end up expanding again. I know! The Debts! But what can I say. I mean you told me you used to live in a mansion once. Dad did too. Now I want to try... hehehehe.

Now I know I normally save the best for last, but this time I can't simply do it. I'm so excited to tell you this, I can hardly write straight! For an English major, that's saying something!
I finally visited the Island today. Remember, the Island that Tortimer invited to me to go to when I was free? Of course I did some other stuff too that I'll mention at the end of the letter, but now for the meat of the letter! So just like Tortimer said, someone came by to day to come and pick me up. It was.. a.. turtle? I'm not really sure. It reminds me of some Japanese green monster.. but it was too friendly to be a monster. He called himself Kapp'n, said I was an adorable Mayor, then wooshed me to the island for a price of 1000 Bells. Yes, he hit on me, yes he's a good driver, and yes he sings! He sang some songs while we were on the way. He was tone deaf, but his songs were silly and cute so I forgave him.

Once we arrived, I looked around and there was a bunch of Kapp'n look-a-likes. I'm pretty sure these aren't your everyday animals. I found out that the younger lady at the counter was his wife, the older one was his mom, and the little darling baby was Kapp'n's daughter. Yes, he did hit on me while he has a child. But I think he wasn't really intending to do anything. You can't help but call a puppy cute, because it is, but that doesn't mean you'll actually marry it right? Right?!?!?

Well, Kapp'n's wife was the one in charge of tours. Because I'm curious as I am, I took one! It's was the Dragon-fly catching tour for beginners. Mom, I ruled it! When the tour was done, I ended up receiving a gold medal score and so Tortimer ended up giving me 6 medals. I wasn't sure what the medals were for until I talked to the elderly turtle-monster and found out that you could buy things at the island with those medals. Why they don't take Bells, it beats me, but hey free is free. Well almost free. You just have to play a few games, but that's a good thing.

When I found out I won the most amount of medals I could for this game. 

That's not all. See those beautiful trees in the background? Yes they had exotic fruit! I mean EXOTIC~! On my first visit, I was able to grab Coconuts and Lemons from my own little vacation island and from the tours I was able to snag Lychees and Mangos! How cool is that! I'm going to plant them like crazy when I can find the time to back in Love. These have to rake in more Bells than the common old Cherry right? The Apples are for sure giving me more money.

I think the Lychee might be my second favorite fruit. I don't know. All the fruits are so good, I can't seem to decide!!!! Other than fruit, the island is positively filled with fishes and bugs. And not just any regular fishes and bugs, I mean the rare kinds. At first I only caught some sunfishes and a few butterflies, but as it got later on during the day (almost dusk/evening time) the really rare bugs came out to play. I mean bugs such as the Horned Atlus and the Goliath Beetle. Some of the bugs could fetch 10,000 Bells all on their lonesome. I hit jackpot Mom! I'm rich $$$!

Now I wasn't allowed to bring my own tools to the island, but there is a gyroid named Lloid, who looks a lot like the Lloid who is in charge of the donations back at Love, that gives you the tools to use. Among one of those tools was a wet suit. Now, never seeing such a tool before, not even in the boxes of stuff you kept from your adventuring days, I tried it on~! The wet suit lets you go diving in the water! It makes it so easy so swim and glide in the water and catch all these kinds of underwater creatures. Blathers will be beside himself when I deliver all these new creatures to him in the Museum.

Once again just for you, me in my dashingly Turtle colored Wet Suit! Aren't I ravishing? Aren't you jealous Mom? I would be if I were you. I'm so beside myself!
Then the horror came! My pockets were fit to bursting with all these valuable items and yet, I didn't have enough room to take it all. Worse, I wasn't allowed to take anything in my pockets back with me to the island. Lloid collected all of the tools before I left because they were meant to be borrowed not given. Luckily, Leilani (wife of Kapp'n) told me I could deposit all of my stuff in a box, and  to take them out on a basket back at Love's port. I was relieved. I was even more relieved when I found that the box had a lot of space. I quickly emptied the contents of my pocket into the box and went back for more goodies. I mean I had so much to get. Fruit, bugs, fish, flowers, and shells! I couldn't help it. This really is the island of Bells I was hoping for! Except it's better! Because I can work for it, and in turn, build my little town up with the sweat of my brow and not some free money that someone gave me. I know, right Mom? I'm just a workaholic these days... What happened to your lazy Noel who started this adventure barely over a week ago?

All the excess stuff that I got too much of I sold (for a ridiculously low price) to Leila (Leilani's daughter). She called it playing supermarket, I call it getting robbed but she's a kid and she seemed happy with her new found items, and my pockets got emptied before I left, so it was all good.

There was only one thing that I wasn't really sure about. There was this application thing called Club Tortimer that Grams (Kapp'n's Mother) was selling for 50 medals. Of course I didn't have nearly enough. The dragonfly tour gave a max of 6 medals. In the end, I ended up with 12 because I played it twice before other aspects of the island called me away. But Grams was explaining that if I had enough medals I would be able to go to different islands around the world and meet new people. It was all super exciting! I have no idea what it means, but I'm going to save up for it!

I don't know how Tortimer has all these medals, and why you can buy things with it but who cares. This island's economics might be weird but I'm happy because it costs only 1000 Bells for me to come to access of all these great things. My pockets are extremely happy with the load I have and Blathers and Reese was just mind-boggled with all the things I presented to them at once! It also greatly increased my Encyclopedia and the Price List I'm working on for the villagers... you have to see the ...
 Oh, I didn't realize the time. It's already so late. I'm gonna have to go to bed with this letter unfinished. I'll send you the second part of my amazingly eventful day tomorrow! I hope you are waiting at the edge of your seat for the next letter.

P.S. My lovely outfit I wore for the Island trip was a combination of a milkmaid dress and a straw boater. I didn't take shoes cause it was a beach! But with all the rocks and shells I should try to remember shoes next time.
